The old resin between the front teeth had come off

A gap between the front teeth is called a diastema.

This patient had previously had the gap restored with resin. The old restoration had come off, exposing the space again.

Decay was also found beneath the remaining resin. Treatment addressed both the gap and the decay beneath the old restoration.

Treatment under rubber-dam isolation

The teeth were treated with a rubber dam in place. The photographs show the gap and the areas close to the gums.

Front and oblique views document the treatment area from different angles.

Treating the decay and restoring the gap again

The decay beneath the old resin was treated, and the gap between the front teeth was restored again with resin.

The front-view photograph shows a smaller gap and changes in the shape of the facing surfaces of the two teeth.

This case records retreatment of a failed resin restoration with decay beneath it. Both the tooth condition under the remaining resin and the reopened gap were addressed.
