OUR DENTURE CARE

Denture care at Hyungje Dental Clinic

01

Digital suction dentures

We record the shape of your gums, the movements of the surrounding muscles and your bite. A specialist dental laboratory makes the denture from these records. We then fit and adjust it at the clinic.

02

Checks and adjustments

We assess pressure points, denture movement and the bite. Adjusting the denture or relining its inner surface can help restore the fit where appropriate.

03

Fixed-teeth consultations

We also compare full-arch implants, which hold a connected prosthesis in place. The consultation covers surgery, aftercare, costs and the expected visits.

WHEN DENTURES FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE

Loose or painful dentures can have different causes

Sometimes the problem is the denture itself; sometimes the bone supporting it has changed. The cause determines whether an adjustment, a reline or a new denture is appropriate.

  • Bone loss over time leaves a gap between the denture and gums.
  • An uneven bite makes one side lift during chewing.
  • Tongue and cheek movements push the lower denture out of place.
  • Pressure from the denture causes soreness or inflammation.

A NEW DENTURE

What a new denture can improve—and its limits

What may improve

  • A loose fit
  • An uneven bite
  • Worn artificial teeth
  • Pressure concentrated on particular areas of the gums

Limits that remain

  • A denture rests on the gums and may still move during chewing.
  • It cannot restore lost jawbone.
  • Tough or hard foods may remain difficult to eat.
  • Further gum changes may require adjustments over time.

Some people experience similar difficulties even after getting a new denture. We assess whether limited bone support or muscle movements contribute to problems that adjustments alone cannot resolve, and compare fixed options as well.

The benefits and limitations of replacing dentures

FULL ARCH IMPLANTS

Fixed teeth you do not remove

Several implants support one connected prosthesis that replaces all the teeth in an arch. You do not take it out yourself, and the implants support the chewing load. Hyungje Dental Clinic has provided full-arch treatment since 2019.

  • Less grafting where possible

Using the remaining jawbone may reduce the extent of bone grafting and shorten treatment.

  • A connected restoration

Several implants support the whole prosthesis, rather than placing an implant for every missing tooth. This can reduce the surgical and financial burden.

  • Support during treatment

When suitable, fixed temporary teeth help you continue eating and speaking while treatment progresses.

CLINICAL CASES

How dentures and implants were chosen in real cases

These are individual clinical cases. Results and treatment times vary with each patient's oral and general health.

YOUR FIRST VISIT

Bring the dentures you currently use

  1. Tell us what feels uncomfortable

We ask when and where it hurts and which foods are difficult to eat. We examine the fit of your denture and how your teeth meet.

  2. Examine the teeth and gums

Photographs and X-rays help us assess the remaining teeth and gums. CT imaging and an oral scan are taken when needed.

  3. Compare the available options

We explain adjustments to the existing denture, a new denture or full-arch implants, including the limitations, time and costs of each suitable option.

You are welcome to come with a family member. Please bring a list of your current medicines.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions before treatment

03Which is better: dentures or full-arch implants?

Dentures can be made without implant surgery. Fixed full-arch implants offer advantages in stability and chewing support. The choice depends on the remaining teeth, jawbone, general health, budget and ability to maintain the restoration.

04Can my current denture be repaired or adjusted?

Adjusting pressure points or relining the inner surface may help when the denture no longer fits the gums closely. If the artificial teeth are badly worn or the bite is substantially misaligned, a new denture may be needed. Bring your current denture so we can assess it.

05Can older adults have full-arch implants?

Age alone does not determine suitability. We consider general health, medicines, jawbone, healing and daily care. Our clinical cases include patients treated in their seventies and eighties.

Treatment criteria beyond age →
06Will I be without teeth when changing from dentures to full-arch implants?

Whether fixed temporary teeth can be attached on the day of surgery depends on the examination and implant stability during surgery. If immediate attachment is unsuitable, we consider a denture or another temporary restoration for the healing period. We also explain whether your existing denture can be used.

07Can the upper and lower jaws be treated differently?

An upper suction denture and lower full-arch implants are one possible combination. We also consider how the upper and lower teeth meet and the overall cost.

08How much does treatment cost?

We explain the denture type, any adjustments, the extent of implant treatment and what is included, such as the prosthesis and temporary teeth. Basic fees are available on the pricing page. Your individual treatment fee is explained after examination.
