Why Does My Mouth Keep Feeling Dry? A Guide to Dry Mouth

This English guide presents the key points of the original Korean article. Individual diagnosis and treatment choices require an examination.

01

What can contribute to dryness?

Several medicines, mouth breathing, low fluid intake and certain medical conditions or treatments may affect saliva. Age alone is not a complete explanation. Tell your dentist when the dryness started and which medicines you take.

02

Why the teeth and gums matter

Saliva helps protect the mouth. When it is reduced, eating, speaking and wearing dentures can become uncomfortable, and decay may develop more easily. We check the mouth and teeth for these changes.

03

What can you do?

Sip water regularly, keep up careful brushing and cleaning between teeth, and discuss persistent dryness with your dentist or prescribing clinician. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own. Persistent symptoms deserve an assessment of their cause.
