This English guide presents the key points of the original Korean article. Individual diagnosis and treatment choices require an examination.
What does the injection treat?
The injection is placed in selected chewing muscles, often around the cheek or temple, after the source of pain has been assessed. Muscle tenderness, jaw movement and the pattern of clenching all matter when deciding whether it is appropriate.
What can you expect?
Botulinum toxin may temporarily reduce excessive muscle activity and discomfort. It does not correct every cause of jaw pain or restore a displaced joint disc. The response and duration vary between patients.
What else should be checked?
We also look for tooth wear, fractures, morning pain, daytime clenching and sleep-related grinding. A protective splint and changes in habits may be part of the plan. Tell the dentist where and when symptoms occur and what treatments you have already tried.
