What does fibre do?
Fibre is placed within or alongside a bonded restoration to help reinforce a weakened area. Its role depends on where the tooth has lost structure and how chewing forces reach the restoration.
When is it considered?
The dentist checks remaining tooth walls, cracks, pulp condition and the bite. Fibre is one possible part of the plan; it does not make every damaged tooth suitable for a direct resin build-up.
Does it replace a crown?
A tooth with very little sound structure or a high risk of fracture may still need an onlay or crown. Isolation with a rubber dam and careful bonding remain important whether or not fibre is used.
